Book Review: Embrace by Cherie Colyer

Synopsis:
How far would you go to save the people you love?

Madison is familiar enough with change, and she hates everything about it. Change took her long-term boyfriend away from her. It caused one of her friends to suddenly hate her. It’s responsible for the death of a local along with a host of other mysterious happenings. But when Madison meets a hot new guy, she thinks her luck is about to improve.

Madison is instantly drawn to the handsome and intriguing Isaac Addington. She quickly realizes he’s a guy harboring a secret, but she’s willing to risk the unknown to be with him.

Her world really spins
out of control, however, when her best friend becomes delusional, seeing things that aren’t there and desperately trying to escape their evil. When the doctors can’t find the answers, Madison seeks her own.

Nothing can prepare her for what she is about to discover.
Dangerous, intoxicating, and darkly romantic, Embrace is a thriller that will leave you spellbound.

My Review:

Didn't expect that! The author was able to use the factor of unpredictability quite well in her story and the story as a whole wasn't what at all what I expected it to be - I mean it in a good way of course - but I wouldn't really wanna spoil for you, would I? You'll simply have to read it to know.

For a starter, I really liked Madison and was able to feel for her, although she hated the idea of change and always saw it as a bad thing - unlike me, I can always see a change as a better thing not the othe way around - but it's enough to say that she was mature and loyal which I really liked in her character. However, I didn't really have a favourite character but Issac - our male lead - did have a sweet side in his character, away from all the mysteriousness and the obsessiveness.

I didn't really like the love story as much which was a very instant one. And although, as we go on in the story we do understand the reason behind the strange connection between Madison and Issac but it just wasn't enough for me to enjoy it as much as I wanted to :/ The ending took me by surprise which I liked and by the end of the book, I started to think better of the relationship between Issac and Madison - they were actually making a cute couple - but because this book is a stand-alone novel, further development between them wasn't possible.

Overall, Embrace isn't really what you think of - whatever that is because the blurb is a very obscure one - but I could say that it was a good paranormal YA novel. The book had it's flaws and some cliched parts, but the storyline itself was enjoyable. So I'd recommend this book for those of you who enjoy YA novels with paranormal twists as well as it being a light read.
