My Top New Releases in May 2012

There are some new releases that I have my eyes on for this month and thought I'd share it with you guys and so here they are:

1) Changeling by Philippa Gregory
Genre: Historical Fiction

Synopsis from Goodreads:
Italy, 1453. Seventeen-year-old Luca Vero is brilliant, gorgeous—and accused of heresy. Cast out of his religious order for using the new science to question old superstitious beliefs, Luca is recruited into a secret sect: The Order of the Dragon, commissioned by Pope Nicholas V to investigate evil and danger in its many forms, and strange occurrences across Europe, in this year—the end of days.

Isolde is a seventeen-year-old girl shut up in a nunnery so she can’t inherit any of her father’s estate. As the nuns walk in their sleep and see strange visions, Isolde is accused of witchcraft—and Luca is sent to investigate her, but finds himself plotting her escape. Despite their vows, despite themselves, love grows between Luca and Isolde as they travel across Europe with their faithful companions, Freize and Ishraq. The four young people encounter werewolves, alchemists, witches, and death-dancers as they head toward a real-life historical figure who holds the boundaries of Christendom and the secrets of the Order of the Dragon.
2) Hemlock by Kathleen Peacock
Genre: YA Fantasy
Synopsis From Goodreads:
Mackenzie and Amy were best friends. Until Amy was brutally murdered. Since then, Mac’s life has been turned upside down. She is being haunted by Amy in her dreams, and an extremist group called the Trackers has come to Mac’s hometown of Hemlock to hunt down Amy’s killer: A white werewolf.

Wanting desperately to put an end to her nightmares, Mac decides to investigate Amy’s murder herself. She discovers secrets lurking in the shadows of Hemlock, secrets about Amy’s boyfriend, Jason, her good pal Kyle, and especially her late best friend. Mac is thrown into a maelstrom of violence and betrayal that puts her life at risk.

3) A Confusion of Princes by Garth Nix
Genre: YA

Taken from his parents as a child and equipped with biological and technological improvements, Khemri is now an enhanced human being, trained and prepared for the glory of becoming a Prince of the Empire. Not to mention the ultimate glory: should he die, and be deemed worthy, he will be reborn...Which is just as well, because no sooner has Prince Khemri graduated to full Princehood than he learns the terrible truth behind the Empire: there are ten million princes, and all of them want each other dead.
4) Slated by Teri Terry
Genre: Sci-Fi
.
     Synopsis From Goodreads:

5) Revived by Cat Patrick
Genre: Sci-Fi

As a little girl, Daisy Appleby was killed in a school bus crash. Moments after the accident, she was brought back to life.
A secret government agency has developed a drug called Revive that can bring people back from the dead, and Daisy Appleby, a test subject, has been Revived five times in fifteen years. Daisy takes extraordinary risks, knowing that she can beat death, but each new death also means a new name, a new city, and a new life. And finally some summer appropriate reads...

6) The Summer My Life Began by Shannon Greenland
Genre: YA

The only problem is that it’s not what she wants. When she gets the opportunity to get away from it all and spend a month with the aunt she never knew, she jumps at the chance. While there, Em pursues her secret dream of being a chef, and she also learns that her family has kept some significant secrets from her, too. And then there’s Cade, the laid-back local surfer boy who seems to be everything Em isn’t. Naturally, she can’t resist him, and as their romance blossoms, Em feels she is living on her own terms for the first time.

7) Bringing The Summer by Julia Green
Genre: YA
Synopsis From Goodreads:

She is beginning to feel ready for something new – a change. And then a railway accident brings her into contact with the gorgeous Gabe. Freya is drawn not just to his blond good looks, but everything about him, including his large, shambolic, warm and loving family, which seems to Freya so different from her own.

And then Gabe’s clearly troubled older brother makes it clear he is interested in Freya – and Freya has some decisions to make about what she really wants.

Book Review: Entwined

Princess Azalea and her eleven sisters loved dancing more than anything in their life. But after there mother's death, the whole palace is put in mourning and dancing wasn't allowed anymore. But there was this one thing, magic. Azalea and her sisters once found this magic passage that led to a mysterious silver forest, where they could dance every night. But then there was Mr Keeper. Who is he? And what are his intentions exactly? And most importantly there seem to be some consequences to dancing in that magical forest, but what could it be?

Entwined is a classic retelling of The Twelve Dancing Princesses, which I actually didn't know about until I was somewhere in the middle of this book. So I don't know how much is it similar to the original story. But all I could say is that this book was enchanting. I loved how this book was written. The author did a fantastic job writing this book. Everything could be easily visualized.

The novel follows the events of the lives of those twelve sisters and it opens with Azalea attending her first ball. While her mother was pregnant and sick, she makes her promise to take of her sisters. Her mother soon after dies after giving birth to their twelve sister, which casts a pall over the palace and the palace becomes in mourning which means staying indoors, no light, no music, no gardens and most importantly no dancing. Life wasn't all happy for them, more specifically Azalea whom had to marry whoever the Parliament chooses and even worst they, the royal family, were bankrupt.

Azalea and her eleven sisters. Well, they had some interesting names, such as Bramble for example. I mean if you knew the character, the name suits her. Azalea itself is a cute name. And the cutest thing ever is that those eleven sisters are named in an alphabetical order. So it's like, their oldest sister Azalea, then Bramble, then Clover and so on. And all of them are sweet, especially the younger ones. However, between them you could feel a real sisters bond. They seemed like a little folk of sheep together. I couldn't say enough about them. Even the King, their father, I, at some point liked him.

All the characters are genuine and realistic, considering that it is a story that took place in the old time. Sweet gentlemen like Mr Bradford, he was such a sweetheart. It had some action but not the action like in our real world, if even considered action. It was rather to be referred to as super intense incidents. I was never bored while reading this book.

All in all, I absolutely recommend reading this book. Such a page-turner and a miraculous story. Well-written and descriptive in a good and moderate way. And yet, it is a fairytale and I believe that not everybody likes fairy tales. But this novel, in my opinion, could be read by readers of various ages.

The Vampire Diaries Tag

Yay !! So if you're a Vampire Diaries fan like myself, please don't hesitate in sharing with me your thoughts about the series ( or the books, although I didn't read it ) AND the season finale which was amazing, if you watched it of course. And so today I come along with a tag from YouTube ( more info will be down ) but without further ado here it is:

1) How did you discover the show? I believe I discovered it through a bunch of my very good friends from school. So I thank them for it.
2) Who is your favorite character? Damon. Of course Damon, he's the kind of person that would appear to be careless and just free of any feelings or responsibility. But deep down to some extent it's the opposite. Yet, he's cute, funny, sarcastic and has this spirit or essence of a bad boy that adds sexiness to his character.
3) If you were a vampire, would you live off of human or animal blood? I'd drink the blood packets, the ones from the hospitals. I think that would be the best of both worlds. So no killing humans but also not animals but by the end it's human blood.

4) Team Stefan or Damon? Team Stefan.... uhhh no Team Damon. I'll tell you what, Team Damon because if you watched the season finale something that Damon remembers made me change my mind and changed my look at somethings slightly. I don't want to give away anything but if I you watched the season finale you'll get what I'm saying.
5) What's your favorite supernatural power? Humans powers, that seems like cheating but I'd want to be a human. However, there are the witches, vampires, ghosts and werewolves and of all, my favorite supernatural power would the vampires. I personally love vampires.

6) If you were to be a character who would you be? I think that I would like to be Caroline, she's one of my favorite characters whom I absolutely love.
7) Have you read the book series? No, unfortunately I didn't.
8) Who's your crush on the show? Okay so Stefan, Damon and Claus. I guess the question was crush not crushes but I can't choose.
9) What was your first initial thought of the show and did it change after you saw it! I initially just thought that it was a rather normal series, didn't see myself loving it as much as now though.
10) Who was your favorite villain? Claus. I love Claus, I mean yes, he was the bad boy, their enemy but I honestly hated him. But not until season 3 that I fell in love with him really.

This tag was featured on YouTube from two of favorite YouTubers. Watch Part 1 on Ingrid's channel and Part 2 on Joey's, quite awesome so check them out.

The questions for if you'd like to answer it yourself:
1) How did you discover the show?
2) Who is your favorite character?
3) If you were a vampire, would you live off of human or animal blood?
4) Team Stefan or Damon?
5) What's your favorite supernatural power?

6) If you were to be a character who would u be?
7) Have you read the book series?
8) Who's your crush on the show?
9) What was your first initial thought of the show and did it change after you saw it!
10) Who was your favorite villain?

Hope you enjoyed it and I personally love these type of tags so if you do too, go ahead and answer it yourself and by the end it's just a fun tag ;) Don't forget to leave me a comment down below telling me ,if possible, what team are you on... Team Stefan OR Damon or sharing with me your thoughts in general.

Book Review: The Lucky One

Logan Thiabolt never actually believed in lucky charms, but loss can change a lot in a human being. Anyway, Logan set on a trip after getting back from Iraq, to find this woman in a picture that he found there, whom he ratified to bring him luck, enough to save to his life. Will he ever find this woman.... umm well, of course he will. But what will be the next step, what is after finding her...

My first Nicholas Sparks novel. And it was a pleasant one. I never thought that I would get easily sucked into the story especially since I never read anything before for Sparks so his style of writing is a bit different but I absolutely love it. And it was just a sweet romantic story with a unique idea that added to it.

What I feel that I like the most about the story is the characters. They are so genuine and down-to-earth and being able to envisage Logan as Zac Efron ( as in the movie) and Beth as Taylor Schilling all the time made it easier for me to live the events more virtually.

Logan and Beth were so sweet together. Even before there was actually anything between them, they were just stunning. Especially Logan, his character reflected what seemed to be a portentous, sober and cool person, just a sexy personality all in all. Sparks was able to insert some details and incidents that would to some extent, metamorphose the story's track. And even though I never really thought that Elizabeth would be a real mother as in her reactions but Sparks demonstrated it quite well. Whenever she was around Ben I could the tenderness and the typical actions of a mother.

It is definitely a lighter read than most, which is good. And I personally enjoyed it and so I do recommend it for those of you who want to take a break from all the fictional stories or even better who doesn't like them at all.

Top Ten Blogs/Sites That Aren't About Books

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme host by The Broke and Bookish

And so here are some websites and blogs that I visit to some point regularly..... Hope you like it ;)
  1. We Heart It : A great source of pictures from all over the Internet. One of my favourite websites actually when it comes to pictures, any pictures.
  2. LoseIt : I use this website to organise how I eat, because sometimes when I'm not a diet, I just like to organise and keep track of what I eat. And it's really useful, helps me keep it mildly, when it comes to fixing my weight, to some point.
  3. Pixlr : I usually use more than one photo editing software since closing Picnick but currently I'm using this, which I find is really good.
  4. Teenager Posts : Again I'm sort of obsessed with pictures, but this time it's on Tumblr. Tons of good pictures.
  5. Elle & Blair : Beauty, hair and fashion. This is the website of the two well-known YouTubers Elle and Blair whom I absolutely love. And so I also really like their website.
  6. Make It & Love It : Who knew that I'm into DIY projects.. well, yes I am to some extent. Just starting though.
  7. Polyvore : Honestly, I don't visit it that often,  but it is still a fun website where you can fix outfits together.
  8. LifeAnnStyle : Another DIY blog but a girly one, in addition to some fashion and stuff. It's the blog of yet another YouTuber that I recently found, Ann from Anneorshine.
  9. Teen.com : Some celebrity news, interviews and just things along this line. But originally it was because of Joey Graceffa ( one of my fav YouTubers ) that I visited the website, who has a new series on this website that I like to watch.
  10. Twitter : Twitter is just a daily must for me.
Hope you guys enjoyed. And so that's was mine. But what about you? Leave me a comment down below which I'll be sure to check out ;)

Book Review: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

After the scandal that Micheal Blomkvist was exposed to. He became a burnt paper in the world of journalism. However, he was offered an open-handed offer to work for a titan of the Swedish Industry, Henrik Vanger. But there might be a hoax going on with this deal. So he was to stay on this island for a year to solve this unsolved ambiguous mystery of a girl who disappeared 40 years ago on this same island, receiving a couple of million kronor. But as he gets involved with Lisbeth, the girl with the dragon tattoo, whom seems to have a dull past with lots of details. Well, he as well seems to have a past but he rather has a future full of unexpected surprises....

The first book in Steig Larsson trilogy, a page-turner thriller with a complex plot to the point of entertainment of course. And although I found it at some points repetitive as in it's twists, it was offset by the story and it's events. However, it's more of a mature book, so definitely not for younger people.

The book is featured as in showing where the paramount incidents that took place, mostly with main characters but occasionally it would go out. It actually helped me get the picture of the story right, as if I was rather with the writer. The writing didn't bother me at all. However, the beginning was that much captivating, but then somewhere in the middle I was sucked in.

In the beginning, you might not understand much but as you go on. You get to know how are things working for Mickeal and Lisbeth but not until almost after half of the book when Micheal and Lisbeth like actually meet each other face to face.

He is much of a strong, stubborn and kind person but that wasn't represented in his relation with Lisbeth or with any other women in the story. It was annoying and perplexing, as until now I don't really know who was he in love with. As for Lisbeth, the female main character, well, she rather shocked me with her actions. She isn't a character that I would ever like actually. All in all, none of the characters were my favorites, which is frustrating somehow. But still the story was superb.

There was predictable and lame part of this story, something that you would see in typical crime movies but I don't want to give away the story, so I will leave it here. Recommend it, as I did enjoy it, plus, it seems like a change, something different, at least for me.

Book Review: Divergent

Little, self sacrificing Beatrice no longer exists, since the moment she transfered to the Dauntless faction. Known as Tris now, she begins to encounter new things in her new faction which is totally different from her old faction, Abnegation. She makes new friends and enemies but then there was Four, whom she falls for.
However, she needs mental and physical powers to overcome all of it. But what is it that she is hiding from people? What makes her different? And what could possibly be the challenges she would face? What are the consequences and what is she to lose, perhaps her family, friends, even herself? But then again who is she....

The plot follows the sixteen years old, Beatrice Prior who lives in Chicago, but it's quite different here. At the age of 16, an annual Choosing Ceremony is held and life decisions are made by everybody, choosing a faction of their 5 discerpant factions. Beatrice and her family are part of Abnegation (selflessness). The other 4 factions are Dauntless (brave), Amity (peacefulness),  Candor (honesty) and the Erudite (intelligence). But of all, Beatrice chose Dauntless...

Since, it seemed like I was messing alot of fun, not reading this book. I did it and happy to say that I LOVED it. I was captivated to start reading it from the very first pages, perhaps even first few lines. A well-written novel, that would sequester you within it's pages. The whole story was riveting.

As the adventure begins, Tris begins exploring her new world, encountering new stuff and such. Through the book, you could observe Tris's transformation quite clearly, I mean she daringly chooses to leave her family. The characters were all down-to-earth. But the thing is that for some reason, while reading this book, I was putting myself in Tris's shoes, comparing my reactions to hers. Her decisions and attitude were somehow rather thought-provoking and her character was a mix. I just liked her character.

The romance is this book was slow-pacing yet so sweet and appealing. Tris falls her dynamic yet enigmatic training coach, Four. He was such a sweetheart but obscure. I was like ' they are going to fall for each other, I'm certain this time' *turn the other page* ' no, it seems impossible'. It was a good one though.

The idea of the factions is a unique and an exquisite idea. Nonetheless, what sort of took it down was that we still didn't know what led to a world like that, the origin of the system of this society. The ending, however, i wasn't a huge fan of or you would rather say that I was some point afraid of how it would end, thinking that the ending was going to lean towards being cliche. But it pulled up again in the last few pages, I believe.

Veronica Roth yet enchantes you in a world that she built. For the Hunger Games and dystopian future lovers, Divergent is yet another dystopian future but with a different flavour, a different detour. A story with five different factions, where your only choice is to choose one but in this case Tris was diversified. Can't wait to explore the other factions in it's sequel, Insurgent. Had a hard time putting this down. Highly recommended.
